FANART
In 2023 I discovered how fun it was to make fanart of my favourite media! It was a really good way for me to develop my digital style - the one I currently gravitate towards.
'I know why I am here'
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
'Son of Poseidon'
Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Disney+ TV show.
'Hateno Dye Shop'
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
With this piece I really enjoyed figuring out the lighting within the scene, having multiple light sources that affected objects differently.
Landscape Studies
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
A digital take on plein-air, I visited places in the game and treated them like real life, drawing the scene as the day and night cycle made the environment change!
'A moment of quiet'
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
This was the first piece of fanart I made, and it taught me the most! To begin with, I did not know what medium I wanted to draw this piece in, so went through a long and sometimes-frustrating experimentation phase, jumping from a digital sketch, to colouring it with watercolours, to using textured brushes on Procreate, to using the live watercolour brushes in Adobe Fresco, and finally settling on a flatter, block-coloured style back in Procreate. It took many months, but I finally created a version of the piece I was proud of, having learned a lot along the way. This was the pivital point in my digital art development - all the pieces that came after this (shown above) built upon this style! This journey was also a good lesson for me, showing me that I shouldn't abandon a piece if it goes badly during the first try. Experimenting again and again will eventually get me a result I am proud of.
