Pagan Holidays Project

There are eight main holidays in the pagan calendar (called sabbats). In this project, I hope to use symbolism and colour to represent each one in a lino print.

Final

This was the first drawing I made for this series, before fully deciding to make lino prints of the other holidays too. I sketched the idea down in my skethbook, then made a digital version and coloured it in to see how it might look. Using this digital mock-up, I transferred the design onto lino and carved it out. I had never attempted making a gradient out of multiple colours  in lino printing before, so it took multiple tries to get something I liked!

Final

This was my most ambitious lino print yet! Having chosen to have four colours (including black), I ended up making the piece into a puzzle made up of ten sections I had to carefully put together after inking. I learned a lot through the process, namely, not to make things so complicated!!

This is a long project in the making. As I make the next pieces, I will add them to this space.
